Stress – The Universal Excuse for Everything?

I'm probably not the only one who constantly hears stress as an excuse for every problem. Why did you lose weight? Stress. Why did you gain weight? Stress. Why heartburn? Stress. Why headaches? Stress. Why can't you sleep? Guess what! Exactly: Stress.
But is everything really connected to stress, or is it just the most convenient explanation for everything that’s going wrong? Maybe stress is the modern version of "Blame it on the weather change" – always a fitting excuse, no matter the issue.

The Double-Edged Sword of Stress
Stress is a part of our lives, like butter on bread. And even if butter has now been replaced by avocado, almond butter, or just air and love, stress remains. It even has a purpose! Without stress, we'd probably be perpetually tired because no adrenaline would ever rush through our bodies. But – and this is a big but – too much stress can also turn us into a permanently charged battery that never gets the chance to discharge. And that’s when the problems begin.
Numbers We’d Rather Not Know
Almost 80% of adults report stress symptoms – which means basically everyone. And what suffers the most? Exactly, our beloved sleep. Surrounded by ever-present stress triggers like smartphones, too much work, annoying neighbors, financial worries, or the eternal question "What should I cook today?", our bodies are in a constant state of alert. Our heart races, our muscles tense up – which is great if you're facing a tiger. Too bad the "tiger" is just an unread email.
Our bodies remember the stress, and that’s when the downward spiral begins: We sleep poorly, our cortisol levels stay high, our body doesn’t repair itself properly, and the next day, we’re even more stressed. What a lovely cycle, right?
Escape from the Stress Labyrinth
But don’t worry – there’s hope! (And no, it’s not the hope that stress will just disappear if we ignore it long enough.) If you banish work from your mind in the evening, create a peaceful sleep environment, and establish some relaxing bedtime rituals, you can slowly break the vicious cycle. A walk in the fresh air, a good book, or simply not staring at your phone – small things, big impact!
So, next time someone asks why you’re tired, irritable, or forgetful – maybe the answer isn’t "stress" but "because I need my peace and quiet."
